Children Who Stutter Speak Out to Build Awareness

"This past March, seven children who stutter spoke to a crowd that included their parents and 50 graduate students in an effort to deepen others’ understanding of how stuttering affects their lives."

"It was important for these children to learn that success is not measured by whether one stutters or not, but instead to shift their focus on becoming excellent communicators. We set these children up to feel comfortable sharing with their clinicians any negative thoughts and feelings regarding their stuttering. The children worked really hard to turn negative thoughts and feelings into positive ones and further focus on their communication abilities."

Why Overusing Baby Food Pouches Could Be Bad For Kids

"Baby food pouches now make up 25% of the U.S. baby food market, according Nielsen's Total Food View as reported by The Times... However, they're not a replacement for regular fruits and veggies, according to Dr. Robin Jacobson, a pediatrician at NYU Langone Pediatric Associates at Irving Place, part of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital."

Excerpt from Autism Eats website:

“For those of us who have a child with autism dining out can be anxiety provoking and stressful. As parents, we may feel that "all eyes are on us" when our kids exhibit certain behaviors, have outbursts or refuse to sit still. Other diners may be disturbed and the well intentioned wait staff doesn't really know the best way to help out. Many of us decide it is just not worth the effort and that is unfortunate. We created Autism Eats to bring the fun back to eating out. Our dinner parties are held in private rooms of restaurants or function facilities. Food is served buffet or family style so there is no waiting. Music and lighting are adjusted to accommodate those with sensory sensitivity.”

Dyslexia: The Role of the SLP

Dyslexia is commonly mistaken for reversing letters/numbers when reading. In reality, the definition of dyslexia is much more general: difficulty reading printed words. SLPs play a major role in evaluating and treating dyslexia, as many speech and language related areas affect the ability to learn how to read, write, and spell. Learn more about the SLP's role in treating reading difficulties below.
